LiCON Story
Lewisham has too often been misrepresented. Negative stereotypes in headlines, conversations and on social media overlook the borough’s rich history of culture, resilience and innovation.
These portrayals can weigh heavily on residents, especially the young people growing up here. But Lewisham iCONS (LiCONS) exists to change that narrative. This borough has produced icons who’ve shaped leadership, literature, music and sport on a national and global scale.
By celebrating the people and stories that define Lewisham, we’re showing the world that our borough is not defined by its challenges, but by its champions.

What We Do
- Founder
Founded by Kayode Damali
Lewisham iCONS was founded by Kayode Damali, an award-winning speaker, entrepreneur and community leader born and raised in Lewisham.
Best known for his time on BBC The Apprentice, Kayode has spent over a decade working with schools, businesses and local organisations. He launched Lewisham iCONS to shine a light on the borough’s role models, open doors for residents, and inspire the next generation.
"I’m Lewisham through and through. My heart beats for this borough and I’m proud to be from here. That’s why I get frustrated when Lewisham is portrayed in a negative light because I know the beauty of our community and the potential we hold.
I want us to flip that narrative, empower residents, and show the world that Lewisham is a force to be reckoned with. Lewisham iCONS is my way of giving back, and my platform to make that happen. Welcome to LiCONS.”
